Tavira, Portugal

Tavira

Portugal · Algarve · 5 m

Description

Tavira is one of the most charming towns in the eastern Algarve and a traditional center of history, culture, and coastal landscapes. Set along the Gilão River, the town is known for its whitewashed houses, Moorish-influenced architecture, historic churches, and medieval seven-arch bridge. Tavira also provides access to the long sandy beaches of the Ria Formosa’s barrier islands, where lagoons, dunes, and salt marshes form a rich coastal ecosystem. Compared with the Algarve’s more heavily developed resort towns, Tavira retains a peaceful atmosphere and much of the traditional character of southern Portugal.
