Description
Nazaré is a traditional coastal town in central Portugal and a fascinating blend of fishing heritage, seaside charm and big-wave surfing. The town is world-famous for the gigantic Atlantic waves at Praia do Norte, which can reach more than 20 metres under exceptional conditions and are amplified by the interaction of ocean swells with the offshore Nazaré Canyon. Nazaré delights visitors with its long sandy beach, the cliff-top district of Sítio, spectacular viewpoints and the historic Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo. The coastal town combines the authentic atmosphere of a Portuguese fishing village with the excitement of an internationally renowned surfing destination.
