Sindou Peaks

Description

The Sindou Peaks are a narrow chain of sandstone spires standing out of the bush near the Malian border, eroded over millions of years into fins, needles and cones that run for several kilometres in a single line. Paths lead into the chain and through gaps between the towers, and the rock turns from grey to deep orange as the sun drops. The Senufo hold parts of the formation sacred and use them for initiation, so a local guide is expected. The village of Sindou at the foot has a lively market.
