Description
Laongo is a field of bare granite slabs in the bush east of Ouagadougou that has been carved into an open air sculpture park. Sculptors from Burkina Faso and abroad have worked directly into the rock since the symposium began, leaving faces, figures, spirals and abstract reliefs spread across several hectares of outcrop under scattered trees. Nothing was quarried or moved. The work is left to weather, so the older pieces are already softening into the stone around them, and visitors walk between them on paths through the scrub.
