Description
Bobo-Dioulasso is the second city of Burkina Faso and widely considered the more agreeable of the two, greener, slower and the acknowledged capital of the country's music. Its Grande Mosquée is a Sudanese-style earthen building of tapering buttresses and projecting beams, and the old quarter of Kibidwé behind it holds mud houses, blacksmith and griot compounds and a sacred fish pool. The colonial railway station and the covered market are landmarks of the French period. Live balafon and afrobeat play most nights, and the Sya cultural festival fills the streets.
