Description
Schladming is a former silver-mining town in the Styrian Enns valley that has become one of Austria's leading ski resorts. The 4-Berge-Skischaukel links Planai, Hochwurzen, Hauser Kaibling and Reiteralm on a single pass, giving 123 kilometres of piste served by 47 lifts between 728 and 2,015 metres. The floodlit night slalom on the Planai draws tens of thousands of spectators every January and is the largest event of its kind in ski racing. Schladming hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1982 and 2013. In summer the valley turns to hiking and mountain biking, with the award-winning Wilde Wasser trail leading past the Riesachfall, the highest waterfall in Styria. The Dachstein glacier rises directly to the north.
