Description
Hohe Tauern National Park is the largest national park in the Alps and one of Europe’s most impressive high mountain landscapes. Covering around 1,856 square kilometers across Salzburg, Tyrol, and Carinthia, it features 266 peaks above 3,000 meters, including the Grossglockner, Austria’s highest mountain, and the glacier-covered Grossvenediger. Since its establishment in 1981, the park has protected a unique natural world of glaciers, alpine meadows, high mountain landscapes, and pristine forests, as well as a rich wildlife population including bearded vultures, golden eagles, ibex, chamois, and marmots. With highlights such as the Krimml Waterfalls, the Innergschlöß valley, and the Grossglockner High Alpine Road, it is one of the Alps’ most important destinations for nature and outdoor experiences.
