As part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site “Hallstatt–Dachstein/Salzkammergut Cultural Landscape”, Hallstatt boasts more than 7,000 years of salt-mining history. Its rich salt deposits made the village an important center during the Early Iron Age and gave the Hallstatt culture its name.
