Description

San Andrés (Isla San Andrés) is the largest island in the Colombian archipelago of the same name in the Caribbean. It lies about 750 km from the Colombian mainland, yet only about 240 km off the coast of Nicaragua, and forms a culturally distinct enclave with strong Afro-Caribbean influences. The island is known for its white-sand beaches, the shimmering turquoise “Seven-Colored Sea”, the species-rich coral reefs of the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, and its laid-back Caribbean atmosphere. Reggae music, the Raizal-influenced way of life, fresh seafood, and excellent snorkeling and diving opportunities give San Andrés its distinctive charm. As one of Colombia’s most popular beach destinations, the island combines tropical nature, Caribbean culture, and a well-developed tourist infrastructure.
