Description
San Agustín is a tranquil small town in southern Colombia and one of South America’s most significant archaeological centers. The San Agustín Archaeological Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is home to hundreds of monumental stone sculptures, burial complexes, and ceremonial sites created by a highly advanced pre-Columbian culture of the Upper Magdalena Valley. Highlights include the mysterious stone figures, the Fuente de Lavapatas ceremonial complex, and the nearby archaeological sites of Alto de los Ídolos and Alto de las Piedras. Surrounded by lush Andean landscapes, rivers, and waterfalls, San Agustín combines archaeological heritage, breathtaking nature, and a peaceful, authentic atmosphere, and is considered one of Colombia’s most fascinating cultural destinations.
