Short description of Salisbury Plain

Salisbury Plain is a broad glacial outwash plain in the Bay of Isles on the north coast of South Georgia, and one of the great wildlife sights on earth. Around sixty thousand pairs of king penguins breed here below the Grace Glacier, a crowd of adults, brown woolly chicks and moulting birds that stretches up the hillside out of sight. Fur seals cover the beach and fight over territory in the early summer, and elephant seals lie in the tussac grass. Landings are made by inflatable boat from expedition ships, and at the height of the fur seal season the beach can be too crowded to land at all.
