Short description of Ocean Harbour
Ocean Harbour is a sheltered bay on the east coast of South Georgia, south of Grytviken, where the remains of a small whaling station lie on the shore. Its best known sight is the wreck of the Bayard, an iron sailing ship that broke from its moorings in a storm and now lies against the rocks of the bay, its deck taken over by nesting shags and tussac grass. A small whalers' cemetery stands above the beach, and a walk over the hill behind the station leads to gentoo penguins and views of the coast. Elephant seals and fur seals lie among the old boilers and the rails of the slipway.
