Description
Pushkar (पुष्कर) is one of India's holiest pilgrimage towns, set on the shores of the sacred Pushkar Lake in the state of Rajasthan. According to Hindu tradition, the lake was created where Lord Brahma dropped a lotus flower. The town is renowned for its sacred lake, lined with 52 ghats where pilgrims perform ritual bathing, and for one of the world's few and most important Brahma temples. Once a year, Pushkar transforms during the Pushkar Mela, internationally known as the Pushkar Camel Fair, one of India's largest livestock and cultural festivals. With its temples, spiritual ceremonies, vibrant bazaars, and unique setting between the Aravalli Hills and the edge of the Thar Desert, Pushkar is one of Rajasthan's most captivating destinations.
