Description

Leh (लेह) is the largest town and administrative centre of the Indian Union Territory of Ladakh. Situated at an altitude of around 3,500 metres (11,500 feet) in the Indus Valley, it is regarded as the cultural heart of the Indian Himalayas. Leh is renowned for its Buddhist monasteries, the historic Leh Palace, the gleaming white Shanti Stupa, and its rich Tibetan cultural heritage. Surrounded by the dramatic mountain ranges of the Himalayas and the Karakoram, the region captivates visitors with spectacular high mountain passes, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and remote valleys.
