Description

Amritsar (ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਸਰ) is the spiritual centre of Sikhism and one of the most important pilgrimage cities in the Indian state of Punjab. The city is best known for the Golden Temple (Harmandir Sahib), the holiest shrine of the Sikh faith, whose gold-clad sanctuary is surrounded by the sacred Amrit Sarovar. Equally significant are the temple's Langar, a free community kitchen that serves tens of thousands of people every day, Jallianwala Bagh, a memorial commemorating a pivotal event in India's struggle for independence, and the nearby Wagah Border, famous for its daily flag-lowering ceremony. Amritsar combines profound spirituality, a rich historical legacy, vibrant culture, and the renowned cuisine of Punjab, making it one of northern India's most rewarding destinations.
