Description
Porto de Galinhas is a beach resort in the municipality of Ipojuca, south of Recife, and one of the most visited seaside destinations in Brazil. A line of sandstone reefs runs close to shore, and at low tide it traps warm clear pools full of reef fish that visitors reach on colourful jangada sailing rafts. North of the village the reef wall of Muro Alto shelters an almost still lagoon, while Maracaípe to the south draws surfers and shelters seahorses in its mangrove estuary. The village itself is compact and lively, with buggy tours, seafood barracas and a busy craft market.
