Description
Serra da Canastra (Parque Nacional da Serra da Canastra) is a remarkable national park in the highlands of Minas Gerais and one of the most important natural areas of Brazil's Cerrado biome. The region is best known as the source of the São Francisco River, which begins here as a small spring, as well as for spectacular waterfalls such as the 186-meter-high Casca d’Anta Falls. Vast savanna landscapes, striking plateaus, and diverse wildlife shape the scenery. Serra da Canastra combines pristine nature with rich cultural traditions, including the famous artisanal Canastra cheese, and ranks among the most significant natural and travel destinations in southeastern Brazil.
