Lençóis Maranhenses National Park
Brazil · Maranhão · 15 m
Description
Lençóis Maranhenses National Park (Parque Nacional dos Lençóis Maranhenses) is one of South America's most extraordinary natural landscapes. Located in northeastern Brazil, the protected area is renowned for its endless white sand dunes, which fill with thousands of crystal-clear freshwater lagoons during the rainy season, creating a unique landscape of sand and water. Among the most famous are Lagoa Azul and Lagoa Bonita, whose turquoise and emerald-green waters contrast strikingly with the brilliant white sand. Beyond the vast dune fields, the park is also home to mangroves, rivers, and traditional communities that have adapted to this remarkable environment. Visitors typically explore the park on foot or by four-wheel-drive vehicle, experiencing one of the world's most spectacular natural wonders.
