Description
Port-Salut lies on the far south-western coast and has the beach Haitians name first, a long pale strand of coconut palms and calm water running for kilometres with almost nothing built on it. The town itself is small and the sand is public all the way along, so weekend crowds come down from Les Cayes and spread out under the trees. Saut-Mathurine falls inland is the largest waterfall in the country, dropping into a green basin deep enough to swim. Fishing boats bring in lambi and lobster each morning. Jean-Bertrand Aristide was born in the town in 1953.
