Description

Popayán is the capital of the Cauca Department in southwestern Colombia and is considered one of the country’s most beautiful and historically significant colonial cities. Known as the “White City”, this metropolis impresses visitors with its historic center, traditionally whitewashed, magnificent churches, and well-preserved colonial-era mansions. Popayán is internationally renowned for its Holy Week processions, which have been recognized by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage, as well as for its excellent cuisine as the first UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy. The city combines colonial heritage, vibrant culture, and culinary traditions with a relaxed atmosphere and is also considered an ideal gateway to the Tierradentro Archaeological Park and Puracé National Park.
