Ouro Preto is a historic colonial town in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded during the 18th-century gold rush, it was once one of the most important centers of colonial Brazil. The town captivates visitors with its steep cobblestone streets, colorful houses, and magnificent Baroque churches such as São Francisco de Assis and Nossa Senhora do Pilar.
