Description
Nyungwe is one of the oldest and largest mountain rainforests in Africa, a green wall across the southwest of Rwanda on the divide between the Congo and the Nile basins. Thirteen primate species live in it, among them chimpanzees and troops of Angolan colobus several hundred strong. A steel canopy walkway hangs sixty metres above a ravine on the Igishigishigi trail and is the single most photographed thing in the park. Trails run to the Isumo waterfall, across the Kamiranzovu marsh and up Bigugu. Birders come for the endemics of the Albertine Rift, and tea fields press against the boundary.
