Kigali
Rwanda · Kigali City · 1500 m
Description
Kigali is the capital of Rwanda and the country's only international gateway, spread over a set of steep ridges with the markets and workshops down in the valleys between them. The Kigali Genocide Memorial at Gisozi, where more than two hundred and fifty thousand people are buried, is where almost every visit begins. The city around it is orderly and unusually safe, with plastic bags banned, a car free zone through the middle and a community work morning on the last Saturday of each month that halts traffic. Kimironko market, the galleries of Inema and the eating streets of Nyamirambo fill the rest.
