Description
Nuquí is a remote coastal town on Colombia's Pacific coast in the Chocó Department and is considered one of the country's most unspoiled nature destinations. Surrounded by tropical rainforest, hot springs, rivers, and expansive black- and golden-sand beaches, the region combines extraordinary biodiversity with a largely untouched coastline. Nuquí is especially renowned for the humpback whales that migrate to its coastal waters between July and October, as well as for the nearby Utría National Natural Park, one of the most important protected areas along Colombia's Pacific coast. The region forms part of the Chocó Biogeographic Region, one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth, and is shaped by the traditions of Afro-Colombian communities and the Indigenous Emberá and Wounaan peoples. Thanks to its remote location and limited tourism development, Nuquí is regarded as one of South America's premier destinations for ecotourism and nature-based travel.
