Description
Nan (น่าน) lies in northern Thailand in a peaceful valley along the Nan River, surrounded by forested mountains and shaped by a distinctive history and rich cultural traditions. The town is known for its historic temples, above all Wat Phumin with its unusual cross-shaped architecture and famous murals, including the iconic image of the whispering couple. The nearby National Museum preserves important traces of the region’s history and culture. Wat Phra That Khao Noi rises above the town, offering sweeping views across the valley. Beyond Nan, mountain roads lead to Doi Phu Kha and the traditional salt wells of Bo Kluea, where salt has been produced from natural brine for generations.
