Description
Nagarkot (नगरकोट) is a ridge village at about 2,200 metres on the eastern rim of the Kathmandu Valley, visited almost entirely for one thing. On a clear morning the view from its terraces and view tower runs along a long stretch of the Himalaya, from Annapurna in the west past Langtang and Ganesh Himal to Everest in the far east. Because the show is at sunrise, almost everyone stays the night rather than driving up for the day. The village itself is a scatter of hotels and guesthouses along the ridge road, with little to it beyond the panorama and the walks that lead off it. A well-used downhill footpath runs from here to the hilltop temple of Changu Narayan, the oldest Hindu shrine in the valley.
