Description
Mysuru (ಮೈಸೂರು), long known as “Mysore”, is a royal city in the Indian state of Karnataka. It served as the seat of the Wadiyar dynasty for centuries. Amba Vilas Palace stands at its centre, a domed and arcaded pile of grey granite and pink marble. Chamundi Hill rises to the east, crowned by the Chamundeshwari Temple and a giant carved Nandi bull. Broad boulevards, shady parks and the covered Devaraja Market give the city an unhurried air. Sandalwood, silk and incense scent the shops. Travellers use Mysuru as a base for palaces, gardens and the wildlife reserves of the southern Deccan.
