Description
Marvão is an impressive fortified village in northern Alentejo, spectacularly perched on a rocky ridge in the Serra de São Mamede near the Spanish border. The village is known for its whitewashed houses, medieval castle and well-preserved defensive walls, which offer sweeping views across the Alentejo landscape toward Spain. Narrow streets, traditional Alentejan architecture and distinctive granite details shape its historic character. Marvão combines medieval fortress history with the tranquil landscapes of the Serra de São Mamede Natural Park and ranks among Portugal’s most striking historic villages.
