Description
Mae Sot (แม่สอด) lies along the Moei River on the border with Myanmar and is an important center of cross border trade. The town brings together Thai, Burmese, Shan and Karen cultures and is known for its lively markets, diverse cuisine and temples with strong Burmese influences. The Rim Moei Market near the Thai Myanmar Friendship Bridge offers handicrafts, textiles, regional goods and gemstones. South of Mae Sot, the winding road to Umphang passes through forested mountain landscapes with 1,219 curves. There lies Thi Lo Su, one of Thailand’s largest waterfalls, cascading over a broad limestone formation within Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary.
