Description
Loket is a small medieval town in western Bohemia, almost completely enclosed by a horseshoe-shaped bend of the Ohře River. Rising dramatically above the river, Loket Castle dates back to the 12th century and dominates the town with its striking hilltop setting. The historic center is characterized by colorful burgher houses, a baroque market square, and a distinctive Holy Trinity Column. Loket is closely associated with the history of Charles IV and the visits of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The town also served as a filming location for Casino Royale. Together with its picturesque river landscape, Loket ranks among the most atmospheric historic towns in western Bohemia.
