Description

Kochi (കൊച്ചി), also known as “Cochin”, is a port city in the Indian state of Kerala. It spreads across islands and peninsulas at the edge of the Arabian Sea. The old quarter of Fort Kochi holds Portuguese, Dutch and British buildings. Landmarks include the Chinese fishing nets, St. Francis Church, Mattancherry Palace and the Paradesi Synagogue in Jew Town. Spice warehouses still scent the lanes of Mattancherry. Art galleries, cafés and Kathakali theatres fill the colonial streets. Ferries link the waterfront districts across the harbour. Travellers use Kochi as the arrival city for Kerala, with the backwaters and Munnar within easy reach.
