Kaziranga National Park, India

Kaziranga National Park

India · Assam · 76 m

Description

Kaziranga National Park (কাজিৰঙা ৰাষ্ট্ৰীয় উদ্যান) lies on the floodplain of the Brahmaputra in the Indian state of Assam. It protects the largest population of the great one-horned rhinoceros. Tall elephant grass, shallow wetlands called beels and patches of semi-evergreen forest fill the reserve. Wild water buffalo, swamp deer, elephants and tigers move through it. Four safari ranges, Kohora, Bagori, Agaratoli and Burapahar, open jeep tracks to visitors. Annual floods reshape the landscape and close the park through the monsoon. Tea gardens and the Karbi Anglong hills frame the southern edge. Travellers come for dawn jeep drives and outstanding birdlife.
