Short description of Gheralta
Gheralta is a massif of red sandstone towers holding the densest concentration of rock hewn churches anywhere in the country, older and far emptier than the famous ones further south. Reaching most of them is the point. Abuna Yemata Guh is a free climb up a chimney and a ledge traverse above a long drop, ending at a cave with its painted ceiling intact. Every church has a priest who must be found before the key appears. There is no town, only a few lodges below the pinnacles, and the region is currently shut to visitors.
