Chiang Khan (เชียงคาน) is a charming riverside town in Loei Province on the Mekong River, directly opposite Laos. Its historic center is known for traditional wooden houses along Chai Khong Road, now home to cafés, guesthouses, restaurants, and small craft shops. In the evening, the street comes alive as a lively walking street, while early mornings are marked by the traditional offering of sticky rice to Buddhist monks. Downstream, the Kaeng Khut Khu rapids reveal rocky formations when the river level falls. Nearby Phu Thok is known for its panoramic views across the Mekong valley and atmospheric sea of mist at sunrise.
