Buriram
Thailand · Northeastern Thailand
Description
Buriram (บุรีรัมย์) is a historic city in southern Isan that combines a rich Khmer heritage with a strong passion for modern sports. South of the city, Prasat Hin Phanom Rung rises on an extinct volcano and ranks among Thailand’s most impressive and best preserved Khmer sanctuaries. The precisely aligned temple is famous for a remarkable solar phenomenon, when sunlight passes through all fifteen doorways four times a year. Nearby, Prasat Muang Tam complements the historic landscape with intricate stone carvings, lotus ponds and distinctive water features. Buriram is also a major center for Thai football and motorsport. Buriram United plays at Chang Arena, while Chang International Circuit hosts international racing events.
