Description
Barbuda is the second island of the country, a flat coral platform forty kilometres north of Antigua with fewer than two thousand people and one village. Almost the whole west side is a single beach, some eighteen kilometres of sand tinted pink by crushed shell, with nothing built on most of it. Codrington Lagoon behind it holds the largest frigate bird colony in the western hemisphere, reached by a small boat from the village. Hurricane Irma crossed the island in 2017 and Barbuda has been rebuilding since. Access is by ferry or light aircraft.
