Anjuna

Description

Anjuna (आंजुणा) is a coastal village in the Indian state of Goa. Its beach mixes red laterite cliffs with soft sand and shallow rock pools. The weekly flea market grew out of the hippie trail and still fills a field behind the shore. Nearby stand the Portuguese ruins of Chapora Fort and the octagonal towers of Albuquerque Mansion. Beach shacks and cliffside bars carry trance and techno into the night. Mornings are slow, with yoga shalas, bakeries and second-hand bookshops. Travellers use Anjuna as a base for north Goa, renting scooters to reach Vagator, Assagao and Mapusa.
