Hong Kong is a special administrative region of China on the South China Sea, a dense city of skyscrapers set between green mountains and a busy harbour. The Star Ferry crosses Victoria Harbour between the island and Kowloon, and the Peak Tram climbs to views over the skyline.
Street markets, temples and dim sum restaurants fill the older districts, while Lantau Island has the Big Buddha and hiking trails, and outlying islands offer beaches and seafood. Hong Kong is also a gateway to Macau and mainland China, and public transport is excellent.
