Lantau (大嶼山) is Hong Kong's largest island, combining spectacular natural scenery, important cultural landmarks, and modern leisure attractions within a single destination. Much of the island is protected as country park, providing a striking contrast to the city's dense urban skyline. Its best-known sights include the 34-metre Tian Tan Buddha, the adjacent Po Lin Monastery, the scenic Ngong Ping 360 cable car, and the traditional stilt-house fishing village of Tai O, which preserves the maritime heritage of the Tanka people. On the island's north coast lies Hong Kong Disneyland, while the 70-kilometre Lantau Trail crosses forested mountains, secluded beaches, and panoramic coastal landscapes.
