Short description of Wonsan

Wonsan (원산) is the main port on North Korea’s east coast and the country’s seaside resort. Songdowon beach lies behind a grove of old pines and has long been the summer destination for Korean families, with an international children’s camp next to it. A new hotel strip on the Kalma peninsula was built to extend that role. The harbour front has a fish market and squid drying on lines, and small islets sit offshore. Inland the Ulim Waterfall drops through a forested gorge, and the ski slopes of Masikryong are half an hour away. The road south leads to Mount Kumgang.
