Short description of Sinuiju

Sinuiju (신의주) sits on the Amnok River opposite the Chinese city of Dandong and is the main land gateway into North Korea. Nearly all freight and most train passengers cross here on the Friendship Bridge, beside the stumps of an older bridge bombed during the Korean War. The city is flat and low rise, with a cosmetics factory, an embroidery institute and a kindergarten on the standard tour, plus a market and a revolutionary site. Views across the water to the Chinese skyline are the image most visitors take away. Short trips from Dandong run to Sinuiju without going on to Pyongyang.
