Vimmerby, Sweden

Vimmerby

Sweden · Småland · 140 m

Description

Astrid Lindgren was born on a farm outside Vimmerby in 1907 and set most of what she wrote in the country she could see from it, which is why a small Småland town of eight thousand people receives several hundred thousand visitors a year. Astrid Lindgrens Värld builds her stories at child scale and stages them with actors rather than rides, and it works on adults too. Näs, the farmhouse itself, is open and deliberately quiet. The town itself keeps a low wooden centre around its market square, and the forest starts more or less where the houses stop.
