Description
Terres Basses is the flat western peninsula, joined to the rest of Saint-Martin by two narrow causeways across the lagoon and given over almost entirely to private villas. There are no hotels and no shops, which is the point, and the four beaches on it are the quietest on the French side. Baie Rouge is the longest and has a rock arch at its western end. Baie aux Prunes and Baie Longue face the sunset and the swell, and Plum Bay is where the surf lands when a northern groundswell arrives. Nothing on the peninsula stands more than a few metres above the sea.
