Description
Baie Orientale is the busiest beach on Saint-Martin, two kilometres of Atlantic-facing sand lined end to end with beach clubs that rent loungers, serve lunch and run watersports off the shore. The trade wind comes in steadily here, which makes it the island's kitesurfing and windsurfing beach. The southern end is naturist and has been since the 1970s. Behind the sand a lagoon and a nature reserve protect the reef and the offshore islets, and boats leave the north end for the sandbar of Pinel Island. The bay is twenty minutes by road from the capital.
