Tahaa (Tahaʻa) is a lush island in French Polynesia that shares a vast lagoon with neighboring Raiatea. The island is best known for its fragrant vanilla, which thrives in the humid tropical climate and has earned Tahaa the nickname “Vanilla Island”. Small motu scattered along the surrounding reef invite visitors to enjoy snorkeling, picnics, and relaxed beach days. Tahaa combines quiet villages and rich tropical landscapes with a relatively low-key tourism infrastructure. The cultivation of the famous black Tahitian pearls is another defining part of the island’s economy.
