Description
Maupiti is a small, spectacularly scenic island in the western Society Islands and is regarded as one of French Polynesia’s most unspoiled destinations. It has a turquoise lagoon, white-sand beaches and no resort hotels at all, only family-run guesthouses in the villages. The single reef pass closes in a heavy swell, which keeps arrivals modest. One of its highlights is the hike up Mount Teurafaatiu, which rewards walkers with sweeping views across the lagoon and surrounding motu. The clear waters are home to colorful reef fish, rays, and blacktip reef sharks. Maupiti combines tropical nature, Polynesian hospitality, and a slower pace of island life, offering a glimpse of what Bora Bora may once have been.
