Description
Shiwa Ng'andu is an English country manor standing in the middle of the Zambian bush, built in the nineteen twenties by Stewart Gore-Browne, who shipped bricks, a clock tower and a library into a roadless plateau and ran an estate around it. His descendants still live there and open the house to guests. The rooms hold his papers, portraits and the accumulated furniture of a life that made no sense where it was. Hot springs bubble into a clear pool in the woodland nearby, and the estate keeps working farmland. The house is reached on a long dirt road off the Great North Road.
