Description
Liuwa Plain lies in the far west near the Angolan border and holds the second largest wildebeest migration in Africa, tens of thousands of animals moving north across an endless flat grassland at the start of the rains. The park became known through Lady Liuwa, a lioness who lived alone for years after poaching removed every other lion, and whose story led to the restocking of the population. Hyena clans here are unusually large. Access is by four-wheel drive across sand or by air, and there are almost no visitors. Camps are few and self-sufficient, and nothing here is arranged at short notice.
