Description
North Luangwa is the wildest of the Luangwa parks, closed to self-drive visitors and served by only a handful of camps, which means the experience is almost entirely on foot. It is the only place in Zambia where black rhino survive, reintroduced in a programme that took two decades and is guarded around the clock. Buffalo herds run to a thousand animals with lion prides following them. The Mwaleshi river is shallow enough to wade, and walking safaris follow it between fly camps for several days. Only a few hundred visitors a year come here, and none of them drive themselves.
