Description
Lower Zambezi National Park runs along the northern bank of the Zambezi opposite Mana Pools, a floodplain of winterthorn woodland between the river and a steep escarpment that keeps the game concentrated on a narrow strip. It is the one park in Zambia where the water is the main way to see animals, from a canoe drifting past elephants that swim between the islands or from a boat casting for tiger fish. Walking safaris run from the camps, and the escarpment blocks the animals from leaving in the dry months. Camps close for the rains and reopen in the middle of the year.
